Introduction:
An overview of the history and uses of dried herbs in the form of:
Infusions & Decoctions
There is an art to tea-making. It is much more than just pouring hot water over a tea bag! We will look at the best way to prepare therapeutic teas, herb to water ratios; and the differences between an infusion and a decoction.
PRACTICAL SESSION:
Tea tasting: This session will help you determine the actions of herbs by tasting a selection used for their calming and relaxing properties.
Tea blend formulation: Enjoy creating your own tea blend to take home.
Hydrosols
A hydrosol is a water-based botanical solution produced during the steaming of aromatic plants. Hydrosols contain small amounts of essential oils.
DEMONSTRATION:
Distillation of a Hydrosol: We will be using a copper still for this process. We will discuss the composition of hydrosols and their uses. Some aromatic plants suitable for distillation are Lavender, Chamomile, Lemon balm and Rose.
Baths
Also known as hydrotherapy (the therapeutic use of water) baths can be quite profound in their therapeutic action. Different types of baths can be used, depending on the desired outcome. These can be full baths, hand or foot baths. We will discuss the various types and their applications.
Steams
Steams are very useful to treat the mucous membranes of the respiratory system. We will discuss the use of steams and the herbs that are the most beneficial for this purpose.
Internal Cleansing / Irrigation)
Douches, enemas & nasal rinsing: We will have a brief discussion about the use of these ancient, internal cleansing methods.
